Privacy
This site has no accounts, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking. This page says what data it still handles, and why.
Who is responsible
Niels Glodny, as in the imprint, where you also find how to get in touch.
Your location
If you allow it, your browser tells the page where you are. The page rounds the position to about 1 km and asks this site’s server for the forecast there and for the name of the place. The server uses the position to answer and doesn’t store it. You can type in a town or postcode instead; searches are handled the same way.
The place cookie
When you choose a place, or your browser shares your location, the page keeps that place (its name and the position rounded to about 1 km) in a cookie called place in your browser for a year. With it, the next visit shows that place’s forecast straight away. It is only sent to this site and only used for that. You can delete it in your browser at any time. It is strictly necessary for the function you asked for, so it needs no consent.
Server logs
Like any web server, this one sees your IP address and the pages you request. It logs requests to keep the service running and secure, but never your full IP address: it is shortened before it is written down, so it no longer identifies you (legitimate interest, Art. 6 (1) (f) UK GDPR and GDPR).
The map
The map’s background (coastlines, roads, place names) is loaded from OpenFreeMap, which therefore receives your IP address and the map area you view. Fonts and everything else come from this site’s own server.
Your rights
You have the right to information, correction, deletion, restriction of processing and objection, and to complain to a data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office). As the site stores nothing about you, there is usually nothing to return or delete. For any request, write to the address in the imprint.
